Getting started with Matomo Tracker

Prerequisites

You'll need a working Matomo setup somewhere. This can be a self-hosted (on-premise) installation or a Matomo Cloud installation.
You'll need a working website with WordPress or Classicpress on installed on it.

Add your website to Matomo

1. In your Matomo dashboard go to Settings.
2. Navigate to the Websites dashboard page and click on Manage.
3. In the Manage page click Add new Website.
4. Enter your website details such as the Name (for reference), the domain names to track for your website and further down if you want Search tracking and if your site is an E-Commerce website.
   Most other settings can usually be left default.
5. Click save when done.
6. On the overview page look for your website and note the ID number. You'll need this when setting up the plugin.

Enable Matomo Tracking on your website

Skip to step 5 if you have already installed AJdG Matomo Tracker.

1. On your WordPress dashboard navigate to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
2. In the search box enter AJdG Matomo.
3. Look for the AJdG Matomo Tracker plugin and click the Install button.
   Or follow the installation instructions for manual installations.
4. When the plugin is installed, activate the plugin with the Activate button or from the Plugins dashboard page.
5. Navigate to the Tools > Matomo Tracker menu.
6. Enter your Matomo Site ID.
7. In the next field enter the webaddress of your Matomo setup.
8. Again in the next field, enable Tracking and click save at the bottom of the page.

And that's it for the basic setup of AJdG Matomo Tracker. If you look in your Matomo stats your analytics should now be collected.

Matomo in general always shows 'yesterdays' stats as current. So you might need to wait a day for any numbers to show up. Depending on your settings 'today' stats are visible. Or you can take a look at the Real Time Map in the Visitors menu.
